Glasgow Steps In as Potential Host for 2026 Games
Following the April meeting of its Executive Board, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has confirmed that the 2026 Commonwealth Games will be the first to be held under the reign of King Charles III, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games will mark a departure from previous events, introducing a multi-city model that will spread the sporting competitions across five regional areas: Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, and Gippsland. This model aims to distribute the economic and social benefits of the Games more widely.
In the event that no other host is identified, Glasgow has indicated its willingness to step in with a scaled-back offering to ensure the continuity of the Commonwealth Games in 2026.
