Yokohama DeNA BayStars welcome ex-MLB pitcher to their roster
Contract details and potential impact on the team
Former Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer has signed a one-year contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan, the team announced Monday.
Bauer, 31, was a highly sought-after free agent after pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He has a career record of 83-69 with a 3.90 ERA and 1,331 strikeouts in 13 seasons in the majors.
In 11 starts with his NPB club this year, Bauer is 6-2 with a 3.67 ERA, 9.9 K/9, and 1.22 WHIP. He has also struck out 62 batters in 57.2 innings pitched.
The BayStars are hoping that Bauer can help them improve their pitching staff and make a run at the NPB championship. The team finished fifth in the Central League last season with a record of 64-75-5.
Bauer is expected to make his debut for the BayStars on July 12 against the Yomiuri Giants.
The signing of Bauer is a significant boost for the BayStars, who are looking to contend for their first NPB championship since 1998.
